Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is an umbrella term to describe lung disease in cattle; the best known example being pneumonia.
Despite the availability of effective vaccines, pneumonia is the greatest killer of cattle over 1 month of age
The negative impacts of BRD can be lifelong. Animals with a history of BRD have reduced feed conversion efficiency, lower daily weight gain and can take up to two months longer to finish!
Stressors such as parasites (e.g. lungworm), weaning, transportation, overstock buildings and marts, all have a weakening impact on the immune system, leaving the animal at more risk of infection.
